Esports World Cup 2026 Prediction: FURIA vs Aurora (19-08-2026)

FURIA and Aurora meet in a best-of-three Round of 16 series at the 2026 Esports World Cup on August 19.

FURIA reached the playoffs after winning both of their group-stage matches, while Aurora had to recover from an opening defeat and come through the lower bracket.

The Brazilian side enter as the favourites, but the way both teams have performed in Paris leaves room for a longer series.

FURIA have won both of their matches at the tournament, but neither result makes a 2-0 in this series look automatic.

Wildcard pushed them to a 13-10 score on Inferno in the opening round.

FURIA then beat 9z 2-1, winning Dust2 13-6 before losing Mirage 16-13 and closing the series with a 13-6 victory on Nuke. Their only best-of-three at the event has therefore already required a deciding map.

Aurora had a more difficult start, losing 13-9 to BIG on Cache, but their response has been convincing.

They beat M80 2-0 with 13-9 wins on Dust2 and Inferno, then produced an even cleaner performance against JiJieHao, taking Mirage 13-6 and Anubis 13-4.

Those opponents are not enough to put Aurora on the same level as FURIA, but the results do show that the rebuilt lineup is settling into the tournament.

Aurora have now won four consecutive maps and have looked considerably more stable since the defeat to BIG.

Previous meetings between these organisations also need to be treated carefully.

FURIA beat Aurora 2-0 at the IEM Cologne Major in June, but that series came before Aurora completed their summer rebuild.

Jimpphat and kyxsan have since joined XANTARES, woxic and Wicadia, meaning Wednesday’s match will be FURIA’s first against this version of the team.

The map results from this tournament give both teams a realistic route to a win.

FURIA were comfortable on Dust2 and Nuke against 9z but still dropped Mirage, while Aurora have already won across Dust2, Inferno, Mirage and Anubis during their lower-bracket run.

At 2.00, Over 2.5 Maps only requires Aurora to take one map rather than win the series.

FURIA remain the stronger team overall, but their performances so far have not been dominant enough to rule out a decider against an Aurora side coming into the playoffs with four straight map wins.
