The 2026/27 La Liga outright market begins with Barcelona and Real Madrid separated from the rest of the division.

Barcelona are narrow favourites to win a third consecutive title, while José Mourinho’s rebuilt Madrid squad are regarded as their only close challenger.

The other markets offer more variety.

Atlético Madrid are strongly favoured to lead the division once Barcelona and Real Madrid are removed, Real Betis are among the main contenders for fourth place, and all three promoted clubs appear near the top of the relegation list.

Barcelona deserve their position at the top of the market.

Hansi Flick has won the league in each of his two seasons, and most of the team responsible for those titles remains in place.

Real Madrid have nevertheless addressed several areas of the squad.

Marc Cucurella and Denzel Dumfries add options at full-back, Ibrahima Konaté strengthens the centre of defence, and Bernardo Silva gives Mourinho another experienced midfielder capable of controlling possession and creating chances.

The attack does not require a new reference point.

Mbappé scored 25 league goals last season and finished as La Liga’s leading scorer despite Madrid ending the campaign behind Barcelona.

The main concern is how quickly the changes come together.

Mourinho is implementing his own ideas after taking charge, several signings could enter the starting line-up immediately, and the World Cup commitments shortened the normal preparation window for several Madrid players.

Barcelona offer greater continuity, which explains their shorter price.

Madrid at 2.20 provide the more attractive option for those prepared to accept the risk attached to a new coach and a rebuilt defensive unit.

Prediction: Atlético Madrid to Finish Highest Without Barcelona and Real Madrid @1.67

This market removes the two title favourites.

Atlético therefore only need to finish above teams such as Athletic Club, Real Betis, Villarreal and Real Sociedad.

The difference in the prices is substantial.

Atlético are available at 1.67, while Athletic and Betis are both listed at 8.50. Villarreal follow at 12.00.

The margin shows that bookmakers view Atlético as part of a separate level between the leading pair and the rest of the league.

Hjulmand strengthens the centre of midfield, Grimaldo adds another attacking outlet on the left, and Kang-in Lee can operate between midfield and attack or from either wing.

Those additions give Diego Simeone more variety in three different areas.

The risk is Griezmann’s departure.

Atlético have lost their record scorer and one of the players most closely associated with their attacking structure.

Several significant additions do not automatically mean a more productive team.

Even with that uncertainty, Atlético have the strongest squad in this reduced market.

Betis, Athletic and Villarreal are the leading contenders for the remaining top-four position, with Real Sociedad next in the market.

Betis finished fifth last season and qualified for the Champions League for the first time since 2005/06.

They also extended a run of European qualification that began in 2021, providing evidence of sustained performance rather than one isolated campaign.

The club have retained Manuel Pellegrini and added Fran García from Real Madrid, improving their options at left-back.

Betis are currently priced at 3.75 for a top-four finish, marginally shorter than Athletic and Villarreal at 4.00.

There are clear reasons for caution.

Betis finished nine points behind Atlético Madrid and 12 points behind Villarreal last season, and Champions League matches will place additional demands on the squad.

This is therefore the highest-risk prediction among the four.

Betis must improve their domestic position while managing a more difficult European schedule, but the price is large enough for a team that has qualified for continental competition in six consecutive seasons.

All three promoted clubs are among the shortest-priced relegation candidates, but Málaga are the only team priced close to even money.

Málaga finished fourth in La Liga Hypermotion with 73 points before earning promotion through the play-offs.

They drew the home leg of the final 0-0 and needed a 2-1 away victory over Almería to secure the last available place.

Racing and Deportivo arrive with stronger regular-season records.

Racing won the division with 82 points and 90 goals, while Deportivo earned automatic promotion with 77 points.

That does not guarantee either club will survive, but it explains why Málaga begin with the shortest relegation price.

The opening schedule is also difficult.

Málaga travel to Atlético Madrid in their first match, host fellow promoted side Deportivo in the second and then visit Real Madrid.

The Deportivo fixture already carries importance because both clubs are expected to spend much of the season in the same part of the table.

Málaga scored 75 goals in the second division, so this is not a prediction based on a team that struggled throughout its promotion season.

The concern is the step from fourth place and the play-offs to a division in which several direct rivals already have established top-flight squads.

The transfer window remains open until 1 September, leaving time for Málaga to improve.

At the current price, however, they are the most logical relegation candidate among the promoted clubs.
