UEFA Champions League Prediction: Sporting Lisbon – PSG (20-01-2026)

Recently struggling PSG would love to start the new year with a win. However, the task won’t be easy as they are travelling to Lisbon to face one of the best home teams of the tournament – Sporting.

PSG looked as good as in their latest season until they met Bayern in November and suffered the first defeat of the UEFA Champions League competition 1-2. But since then, Luis Enrique’s men were not able to put together a winning streak.

The French champions did beat Tottenham 5-3 in a very entertaining game, but went scoreless in the next match versus Bilbao Athletic 0–0. Despite that, PSG played great and failed to convert their chances with xG 2.22.

In France, PSG started the year with a 2:1 win over city rival Paris FC and later won the Super Cup over Marseille after a tight game which ended in a penalty shootout. Surprisingly, they are still in 2nd place due to the current incredible Lens run.

The Sporting team continues to repeat tendencies and are still winless in away matches, but won all of their fixtures at home. In the latest round the Portuguese side failed in Germany, ending a match against Bayern with 0 shots on target and 1-3 defeat.

January did not start great for the Lions as they drew versus Gil Vincente 1-1 and now are 7 points behind the league leaders Porto. Just four days later Sporting got eliminated from the Portuguese Cup against Vitoria Guimaraes in a 1-2 defeat.

Although Sporting won all home fixtures so far, none of those wins were against Pot 1 team. They beat Kairat Almaty and Club Brugge while being favourites and in the last minute defeated the more respected Marseille team.

Moreover, PSG demonstrates incredible form in away matches and are 2nd in this statistic, only behind Arsenal. Les Parisiens already beat Barcelona in Spain, therefore this fixture should not bring any fear.

It is hard to see Sporting beating PSG, but the current Sporting’s position in the league table suggests that they’ll need to attack, which popular bookmakers might consider when setting their odds.
