UEFA Champions League Prediction: Marseille – Liverpool (21-01-2026)
Recently high-flying Marseille are looking to extend the winning streak to three in a row. However, this task is very hard, since they are hosting Liverpool, who are slowly bringing their respect back.
After a disappointing first half, Marseille finished 2025 with a bang registering 2 straight wins. Firstly, Roberto De Zerbi’s men defeated Newcastle at home 2-1 and later collected another 3 points in an away fixture versus Royal SG.
With such success, they climbed up the ladders and now find themselves in 16th place with 9 points, only 1 point behind such teams as Barcelona, Chelsea and others. With Club Brugge still left to play, they should be very positive about their promotion, but points in this match would guarantee it.
For Les Olympiens, 2026 does look promising, after they lost the French Super Cup final only after penalties to PSG and later qualified to the French Cup quarter finals with a 9-0 win over Bastia. In Ligue 1 they remain in 3rd place, which matches the pre-season expectations.

While, after a tragic performance at home versus PSV, Liverpool also finished the year with a win. The Reds traveled to Italy and beat Inter 0-1 at the San Siro, firing the team to the 9th place and with a great chance to finish at the top 8.
In the last round, Arne Slot’s men will host Qarabag, so already suffering 2 losses might be irrelevant. The fans might still remember last season’s unfortunate exit against PSG after the penalties and dreams of another Champions League title.
However, Liverpool started the new year with 3 straight draws in the Premier League, with 2 being against the underdogs Leeds and Fulham. Although the 0-0 draw against Arsenal away was a positive result, the board expects definitely more from the manager in the national league.
Despite the recent winless streak, Liverpool are 4th in the Premier League and the destiny is still in their hands.
Interestingly enough, both teams have exactly the same goal difference of 11:8 and conceded 3 or more goals in the past 2 games. Since most of the other top 8 sides on paper have an easier fixtures, we are expecting Liverpool to go for the win, which should eventually lead to the both sides scoring goals, as the best bookies suggest.
