The 2026/27 La Liga 2 season begins on Friday, 14 August, when Real Sociedad B host CD Castellón.

The final round is scheduled for 6 June 2027.

Officially branded as LALIGA HYPERMOTION, Spain’s second division contains 22 clubs playing a 42-match regular season.

The top two earn automatic promotion, teams finishing third to sixth enter the playoffs and the bottom four are relegated.

RCD Mallorca, Girona FC and Real Oviedo arrive after relegation from La Liga.

CD Tenerife and CD Eldense earned direct promotion from Primera Federación, while Celta Fortuna and CE Sabadell came through the playoffs.

They join a division that already contained several credible promotion candidates.

UD Almería finished third last season, UD Las Palmas and CD Castellón reached the playoffs, and Burgos CF missed sixth place despite ending level on points with Castellón.

Full 2026/27 La Liga 2 outright odds have not yet been widely published by football betting sites.

UD Almería finished third last season with 74 points, three behind Deportivo in the second automatic-promotion position and eight behind champions Racing Santander.

Their attack was already operating at title-contending level. Almería scored 81 goals, the second-highest total in the division, and finished with a +18 goal difference.

The failure came at the other end.

They conceded 63 goals, more than any other top-eight side.

Too many matches required the attack to compensate for an exposed defensive structure, reducing the margin for error whenever Almería’s finishing level dropped.

García Pimienta has been appointed after previously winning promotion from this division with UD Las Palmas. His task is not to replace Almería’s attacking identity but to give it a more reliable platform.

The club has recruited accordingly.

Jorge Pulido adds experience and leadership at centre-back, while Andrej Popović provides another left-footed defensive option.

His physical presence and ability to carry the ball through pressure had made him an influential part of the midfield.

Vesga offers a different profile rather than a direct replacement.

García Pimienta must find the correct balance between Vesga’s control, Horta’s creativity and the athletic qualities available elsewhere in the squad.

There is also a genuine integration risk. Almería have changed coach and added several players across defence, midfield and the wide areas.

A strong collection of individuals will still need time to develop consistent distances and responsibilities without the ball.

The title selection is therefore not based on assuming that the defensive issue has already been solved.

It rests on Almería beginning from a 74-point and 81-goal base, then adding players whose qualities address several of the areas that prevented automatic promotion.

Among the returning contenders, no other club combines the same proven second-tier attacking output with this level of summer investment.

La Liga 2 Winner Prediction: UD Almería

Mallorca were relegated after finishing 18th in La Liga with 42 points.

Their top-flight campaign ended in disappointment, but the current squad still contains a substantial core with experience at a higher level.

Antonio Raíllo, Martin Valjent, Sergi Darder, Manu Morlanes and Pablo Torre provide established quality through the centre of the team.

That base should matter across a 42-match season in which consistency, physical resilience and the ability to control tight matches frequently separate the automatic-promotion teams from the playoff contenders.

The largest change is in attack.

Vedat Muriqi scored 23 of Mallorca’s 47 league goals before joining Fenerbahçe.

His influence extended far beyond finishing. He occupied centre-backs, provided an aerial outlet and allowed Mallorca to play directly when building through midfield became difficult.

Pablo Maffeo has also left for Olympiacos after making 160 appearances for the club.

His departure removes an established right-back and changes another familiar part of Mallorca’s structure.

The recruitment has addressed some of those losses without pretending to reproduce them directly.

Adrián Fuentes arrives after scoring 14 goals and providing three assists in 41 matches for Córdoba.

He has already shown that he can produce in La Liga 2, although he offers a different type of presence from Muriqi.

Arnau Puigmal played 47 matches for Almería last season and adds versatility, ball-carrying ability and experience of a promotion race.

Mallorca have also added further depth around them, giving Luis García Fernández several options for changing the shape and attacking profile of the team.

The new coach previously managed Las Palmas during the 2025/26 season and has earlier experience with Espanyol in both La Liga and the second division.

He inherits a squad capable of defending at a higher standard than most La Liga 2 opponents, but he must construct a new attacking hierarchy.

Fuentes should contribute goals. Mallorca will still need additional production from midfield, wide areas and set pieces rather than expecting one signing to absorb Muriqi’s full output.

Further transfer activity also remains possible. The automatic-promotion case would weaken if several more established starters left before the deadline.

For now, Mallorca possess the strongest combination of retained top-flight quality, defensive experience and targeted second-tier recruitment among the relegated clubs.

Almería are preferred for the title because their attacking performance in this division is already proven. Mallorca are the stronger selection to occupy one of the two automatic places.

La Liga 2 Automatic Promotion Prediction: RCD Mallorca

Burgos finished seventh last season with 72 points, level with sixth-placed Castellón.

Their failure to reach the playoffs should not obscure the quality of that campaign.

Burgos conceded only 33 goals across 42 matches, the best defensive record in the division.

They remained in the promotion race despite scoring only 48, fewer than every other top-eight club.

That combination made the margins extremely narrow. The defence provided a playoff-level platform, but the attack rarely gave Burgos enough protection when matches turned against them.

The 2026/27 prediction cannot simply assume that the same defensive unit will return unchanged.

Captain Aitor Córdoba has left after 231 official appearances.

Miguel Ángel Atienza departed at the end of his contract after playing 163 matches for the club, while Iván Morante joined Girona after making 75 appearances across two seasons in Burgos.

Those are significant losses through the centre of the team.

There is still continuity. Grego Sierra has extended his contract until 2028, preserving experience in defence, while the club has added José Gragera on loan to strengthen midfield.

Javi Llabrés provides another attacking option after joining from Mallorca.

The most important change is on the bench.

Sergio Francisco arrives after progressing through Real Sociedad’s coaching structure.

His teams are associated with positional play, building from the back and using coordinated possession rather than relying almost entirely on defensive resistance.

Those principles could help Burgos create longer spells of control and improve an attack that produced only 48 goals.

They also create risk.

A team that conceded 33 under one coaching structure cannot automatically be expected to reproduce that figure after losing senior players and changing its approach.

Burgos must introduce more ambition without creating the spaces that their previous organisation denied opponents.

This is no longer a simple continuity selection based on last season’s defence.

It is a bet that a club which reached 72 points has enough institutional and tactical stability to rebuild around the same competitive identity.

Burgos do not need to challenge for the title or become one of the division’s leading attacks. They only need to convert another season around the edge of the top six into one place higher.

The departures make the selection riskier, but they do not erase the level Burgos sustained over 42 matches.

A playoff finish remains more realistic than an automatic-promotion prediction and still offers a defensible long-term position.

La Liga 2 Promotion Playoff Prediction: Burgos CF

CD Tenerife return to La Liga 2 after winning Primera Federación Group I with 76 points.

Álvaro Cervera’s team finished 11 points clear of second place, scored 62 goals and conceded only 24 across 38 matches.

The defensive record is the strongest reason to support Tenerife.

Cervera remained with the club after relegation and built a team that could control matches without requiring constant possession.

Tenerife protected central areas, defended their penalty box reliably and lost only six league games.

That structure should translate better to La Liga 2 than a promotion campaign built mainly on open attacking football.

Promoted teams frequently struggle because they concede too easily once the speed and individual quality of the opposition increase. Tenerife enter with a system already designed to keep matches close.

The club also benefits from coaching continuity.

Cervera is contracted until June 2027 and has extensive experience in Spain’s second division, including his previous spell with Tenerife and a long period at Cádiz.

The risk lies in the step up rather than in the quality of the promotion campaign.

Tenerife’s 62 goals show that they were not a purely defensive side in Primera Federación. The question is whether the same attackers can create and finish enough opportunities against stronger defences.

A team can remain competitive through organisation and still be relegated if too many controlled matches end in draws or narrow defeats.

The promoted clubs also present different cases.

Eldense return with recent second-tier experience, while Sabadell and Celta Fortuna completed their promotions through the playoffs.

Tenerife were the only one of the four to dominate their group by such a clear margin while combining strong attacking and defensive numbers.

That does not make survival automatic. It does give Tenerife the most complete evidence base among the newcomers.

La Liga 2 Promoted Club to Stay Up Prediction: CD Tenerife

Girona FC should remain part of the promotion discussion after collecting 41 points in La Liga.

The squad retains players with top-flight experience, but Quique Álvarez is stepping up from Girona B and further movement remains possible before the transfer deadline.

UD Las Palmas finished fifth with 73 points last season and already demonstrated that they can reach the playoffs. Their challenge is converting another competitive campaign into a top-two finish.

CD Castellón scored 70 goals and claimed sixth place ahead of Burgos.

The departure of Cipenga removes one productive attacking option, but their previous output keeps them among the credible playoff contenders.

SD Eibar finished eighth and retained a strong defensive record.

They remain capable of entering the top six, although their recent results provide a less compelling outright case than the four main selections.
