Utah Jazz Prediction – Under 29.5 Season Wins
Cooper Flagg, a 2.06 m two-way phenom from Maine, is one of the most highly touted American players in a long time and is eligible for next year’s NBA Draft.
🏀 Season Prediction: Utah Jazz – 22 wins |
Flagg is the projected number one pick of the 2025 NBA Draft amid recent international player dominance. Utah will surely be one of the teams contemplating their chances of lucking into that pick and setting their franchise up for the future.
If Flagg is the generational player he is praised to be, the Jazz will have plenty of competition for the bottom.
While the NBA recently changed their lottery odds to disincentivize teams from having the worst record, it did incentivize teams to have one of the three worst records, which gets you equal odds at the first pick.
So, as long as the Jazz have one of the bottom three records in the league, they will get a 14% chance of completely changing their franchise’s future prospects. It’s a strong motivation to tank for Utah.
Trends to Know
The Jazz have lost more games than the previous year for each of the past three seasons.
Utah traded ten players last season and are considerably less experienced as a squad.
Sacramento Kings Prediction – Under 46.5 Season Wins
Outside a memorable run in the early 2000s under Rick Adelman, the Sacramento Kings have been one of the most hapless major sports franchises of this century. Their 48-34 record two seasons ago was their first above .500 in 17 years, breaking an NBA-worst 16-season playoff drought.
🏀 Season Prediction: Sacramento Kings – 44 wins |
Last year, they regressed in record slightly, limping to a 46-28 mark, finishing with the ninth seed, and losing in the Play-In Tournament. Their results are a testament to how much tougher the Western Conference got.
This year, they lost six key veterans, most notably Harrison Barnes, but brought in some potentially key players, led by the interesting addition of DeMar DeRozan.
They are projected at 46.5 total wins, roughly the same number of victories as last year. So the question basically is, are the Kings better or worse? In a hungry Western Conference with several established teams, it may take too long for the Kings to figure out who they are with DeRozan.
Trends to Know
Since moving to Sacramento in 1985, the Kings have won more than 46 games just six times.
Five of those times were all in a row in the years 2000-2005, during the aforementioned Adelman run.

San Antonio Spurs Prediction – Under 36.5 Season Wins
The face of recent international player dominance is the main reason that the Over on the Spurs’ total wins is one of the most popular bets in the futures market.
🏀 Season Prediction: San Antonio Spurs – 34 wins |
Victor Wembanyama wowed even more during this year’s Paris Summer Olympics and many are convinced he will be making a superstar leap in just his second year.
That’s actually not hard to believe. What does cast doubt on betting the over on basketball betting sites is thinking a San Antonio squad that won 22 games last year will increase that by 15 whole games in this tough Western Conference.
Adding a 39-year-old Chris Paul and fellow veteran Harrison Barnes, plus some unproven rookies, is simply not enough to contend for the playoffs in the West.
The unfortunate reality is to win at least 37 games, the Spurs will need to be just that. It is not out of the question. Just last season, the Houston Rockets, of all teams, improved by 19 games, going from 22-60 to 41-41. Proof it is possible for San Antonio to achieve the same.
But the Spurs haven’t won that many games since the 2018-19 season. Their last year making the playoffs was six seasons ago. They’ll improve, but not likely by that much.
Trends to Know
The Spurs haven’t improved by that many games in one season since 1997-98, Tim Duncan’s first year, when they improved by 36 games!
San Antonio has improved by at least 15 games one other time in its history. The 1989-90 season, when they improved by 35 games in David Robinson’s rookie year.
Los Angeles Lakers Prediction – Over 43.5 Season Wins
The Lakers finished last season 47-35 amid a slew of injuries and questionable roster decisions by a since-fired coach. Their Over/Under on wins has gone down since it opened at 44.5 a couple of months ago.
🏀 Season Prediction: Los Angeles Lakers – 50 wins |
This was most likely due to a lack of hardly any significant off-season moves. Except, of course, the hiring of a new, and unproven, coach, J.J. Redick. He’s now just the biggest of many question marks going into the Lakers’ 2024 season.
A first-year coach with no experience, save for his son’s youth league, Redick is the definition of unproven at his position. Combine that with aging and injury concerns for the Lakers’ two superstars, LeBron James, the greatest scorer in history, and Anthony Davis, and it is understandable why many doubt Los Angeles.
Still, what two superstars they have! James and Davis played dominant roles in Team USA’s Olympic Gold run this summer, and the Lakers will not look to waste their time together.
Once the season starts, the Lakers will continue working on trades to dynamically upgrade the squad.
Trends to Know
LeBron James and Anthony Davis are 134-76 (.638) when they play together for the Lakers.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis have played more than 35 games in a season together just twice since 2019-20.
Cleveland Cavaliers Prediction – Over 48.5 Season Wins
Another team starting out with a brand-new coach is the Cleveland Cavaliers. Fresh off signing superstar Donovan Mitchell to a three-year contract extension, the Cavs also welcomed in former Brooklyn coach, Kenny Atkinson.
🏀 Season Prediction: Cleveland Cavaliers – 55 wins |
While Atkinson only had one winning season with the Nets, he is a widely-respected coach who spent the last three years as the top assistant in Golden State. He’ll be taking over for a disappointing J.B. Bickerstaff who could only muster one playoff series win in his five years leading the Cavs.
While many may question the Cavs roster construction, they did battle injuries last year. Atkinson seems poised to take this team to heights they never reached under the previous regime.
Expect the Cavs to establish themselves as serious contenders in the East, hovering close to the top seed all season long.
Trends to Know
The Cavs have won at least 50 games nine times since 2000, including as recently as two years ago.
Cleveland has finished above .500 seven of the last 10 seasons, averaging 51 wins per season in those years.
