Formula 1 heads to Madrid on September 11–13 for the first Grand Prix at the new Madring circuit. The Spanish Grand Prix is Round 14 of the 2026 season, with Sunday’s race scheduled over 57 laps.

Madring has never previously hosted Formula 1, so there is no historical race data for tyre degradation, strategy or the competitive order at this venue.

Kimi Antonelli and George Russell have combined for 10 pole positions from the opening 13 Grands Prix, with Antonelli taking six and Russell four.

Mercedes supplied every Grand Prix pole winner through the first 10 rounds of the season before that run ended in Hungary.

The last three qualifying sessions have been less dominant, but the underlying pace has remained strong.

Lando Norris took pole in Hungary and again at Zandvoort, where Russell qualified second and Antonelli third.

The form immediately before Madrid remains strong.

Antonelli finished second and Russell third at Zandvoort before Mercedes went one better at Monza, taking a one-two finish with Antonelli 3.857 seconds ahead of his team-mate.

Monza is not a direct technical comparison for Madring, so the Italian result should not be treated as proof that Mercedes will dominate again.

The more important point is the broader record: Mercedes has won on several different types of circuit and remains comfortably the most successful team of the season.

Antonelli’s Monza recovery underlined that race-day strength. He started 19th after taking additional power-unit elements, quickly worked his way through the field and eventually passed Russell for the lead.

A mid-race Virtual Safety Car gave Antonelli an important strategic opportunity to switch to fresher tyres, but the comeback still required the pace to reach the front from the back of the grid.

Antonelli is the individual race favourite at 2.75, but Mercedes at 2.10 also covers Russell, who has already won in Australia and Austria this season.

With two proven race winners in the same car, the constructor market is the stronger option at the available prices.

Max Verstappen has endured an inconsistent season overall, but his recent results make 3.75 for a podium finish difficult to ignore.

Verstappen has five Grand Prix podiums in 2026, with four coming across the last six rounds.

He finished second in Austria, retired in Great Britain, took third in Belgium, finished second in Hungary, retired again at Zandvoort and returned to the podium with third place at Monza.

That sequence gives the selection a clear statistical basis: Verstappen has finished on the podium every time he has reached the chequered flag in the last six Grands Prix.

Monza was another encouraging result. Verstappen finished third behind the two Mercedes drivers but ahead of Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton.

Red Bull did not need to have the fastest car for Verstappen to secure a top-three finish, and the same applies to this market in Madrid.

The main concern is his finishing record.

Verstappen has already recorded four Grand Prix retirements this season, making him considerably less reliable than the leading Mercedes drivers.

That risk is reflected in a price of 3.75, which corresponds to an implied probability of roughly 27%.

A race victory at 11.00 requires a much bigger step from Red Bull.

The podium market sets a more realistic target while retaining a substantial price, particularly given Verstappen’s recent record whenever he has completed the race.
