So, what have we gone for in 2023 ?

The iconic group one flat race is a simple choice as one of the stand out moments of 2018.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe

Enable was the defending champions and duly lived up to her billing once again as the pre-race favourite.

This was all despite carrying and injury which had prevented her from competing for much of the year.

After getting away well and gaining close on a furlong lead, those niggling injury setbacks looked as if they could cost her dear.

However, she managed to hold on under the expert stewardship of Frankie Dettori as both horse and rider made it back to back wins at the Arc.

A year’s action would not be complete without the annual jaunt to a tailor for the most regal event of the year, Royal Ascot.

The Gold Cup – Royal Ascot

The gold Cup is one of the pinnacle race on the flat surface and 2018 once again did not disappoint.

2017 winner Big Orange was a notable absence due to injury but that just helped open up the field.

It was Frankie Dettori again who was on board the winner, the British trained Stradivarius in a race that featured four previous group one winners.

It was also Dettori’s 60th winner at Royal Ascot in what proved to be a thrilling finish with the French trained Vazirabad almost pipping Stradivarius to the line as long-time leader Torcedor eventually came home third.

It was a fitting end to a truly memorable Gold Cup.

The Juddmonte International saw a strong group one field of eight head to York.

Seven of the field had already won at least once throughout the year making it a remarkably competitive field.

Young and old were in the mix at York and it was Roaring Lion ridden by Oisin Murphy who came through to take victory.

The younger Lion literally roared to the finish after some superb placement by Murphy in the stirrups to complete what proved to be a remarkable season by the John Gosden trained horse.
