The 2026/27 EuroLeague season is six rounds old, with Panathinaikos, Fenerbahce and defending champions Olympiacos sharing the lead on five victories each.

Five more teams have started 4-2, leaving the race for playoff positions closely contested.

The early results reveal contrasting strengths. Panathinaikos have the league’s strongest defensive record, Fenerbahce remain unbeaten at home, and Olympiacos have already won four away games.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have recovered from three consecutive defeats.

The opening six rounds have highlighted several serious championship contenders, although their strengths differ considerably.

Panathinaikos and Fenerbahce have impressed defensively, while defending champions Olympiacos have demonstrated their ability to win difficult away games.

Real Madrid remain in the conversation despite their slow start, with plenty of time left for the balance of power to change.

Panathinaikos have made the most convincing statistical start, scoring 528 points while conceding just 438. Their +90 point difference is the best in the competition.

One standout performance came against Partizan, whom they held to just 55 points in a 72-55 away victory.

However, the five-game winning streak ended when Hapoel Tel Aviv claimed a 91-81 victory in Athens.

That defeat did not erase Panathinaikos’ impressive defensive performances, but it exposed a potential weakness against teams capable of maintaining offensive pressure.

Their next challenge is maintaining those standards away from home, having played five of the opening six games in Athens.

Saras Jasikevicius’ Fenerbahce have also started 5-1, conceding an average of 74.5 points per game.

Their latest victory came against Partizan, when they recovered from a 28-25 halftime deficit to win 74-65.

Fenerbahce recorded 14 blocked shots, setting a EuroLeague single-game record. Markus Bingham contributed five of them.

The result demonstrated the team’s ability to control games defensively, even when its offense struggles.

However, all five victories have come in Istanbul. Upcoming away games against Olympiacos, Valencia and Real Madrid will provide a much stronger test of their championship credentials.

Olympiacos retained much of the squad that defeated Real Madrid 92-85 in the 2026 Championship Game.

Georgios Bartzokas remains in charge, while Jean Montero and Codi Miller-McIntyre have strengthened the backcourt alongside established contributors Sasha Vezenkov and Evan Fournier.

The champions have won four of their five away games, including demanding victories in Spain.

They recovered from a 28-point deficit to defeat Valencia 102-97 after overtime before beating Barcelona 105-100, again requiring an extra period.

Those performances showed considerable attacking depth, but also raised defensive concerns.

Olympiacos conceded 90 points in regulation against Valencia and 92 against Barcelona. Repeatedly needing late recoveries could become costly against stronger playoff opponents.

Real Madrid opened with defeats against Dubai Basketball, Anadolu Efes and Hapoel Tel Aviv.

However, last season’s finalists responded with victories over Partizan, Olimpia Milano and ASVEL, including a convincing 111-92 win in Round 6.

The offense has improved, but Madrid are still conceding 88.5 points per game.

Their recovery is encouraging, although stronger performances against leading teams are needed before considering them among the most convincing title contenders.

Valencia have been particularly productive offensively, scoring 590 points across six games, including overtime. However, their defense has been less reliable, with 549 points conceded.

Hapoel Tel Aviv made an important statement by defeating Panathinaikos 91-81 away from home, while Dubai have already claimed victories against Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Both Hapoel and Dubai hold 4-2 records, but sustaining their form over the remaining 32 rounds will be considerably more demanding.

Olympiacos are the preferred outright selection, primarily because of their established championship core and strengthened backcourt.
