EuroLeague Prediction: Fenerbahce – Panathinaikos (25-10-2024)

This week’s EuroLeague Round 5 will again be full of intriguing games. Zalgiris hosts Maccabi at home, Virtus Bologna will be looking for their first EuroLeague win when they visit Belgrade, and Olimpia Milano plays against Anadolu Efes.

However, the main match of the round is the game in Istanbul between Fenerbahce and EuroLeague champions Panathinaikos.

🏀 Match prediction: Fenerbahce -1.5 @ 1.85

Fenerbahce started the season with a win against Olympiacos, where we saw great potential.

However, Scottie Wilbekin was out for the whole season due to injury at the start of the match, Tarik Biberovic was disqualified, and Wade Baldwin IV did not find his game.

All this led to Fenerbahce’s desperate defeat to Crvena Zvezda in the third home game. The double week closed with an away win against Alba Berlin.

Fenerbahce returns home this week to rehabilitate after the defeat against Crvena Zvezda. Last season, the Istanbul club had its best home record with 15 wins and just 2 losses.

Only Barcelona has lost twice at home. Can Fenerbahce be expected to lose twice in a row?

The upcoming opponent is really serious – the EuroLeague champion – but it should be noted right away that the quality of the game is not there yet. Panathinaikos lost both times last week: 80:84 away against Paris Basketball and 86:90 against Real Madrid.

Both teams go into the game looking to win. For Panathinaikos, three losses in a row would be an alarm bell. Still, given how Ergin Ataman’s championship-winning Anadolu Efes looked in the regular season, it would not be surprising to see a poor start for Panathinaikos.

Home game advantages are massive in EuroLeague games, so we pick Fenerbahce to win by a small margin. The situation would be very different if the game were played in Athens.

While Fenerbahce, coached by Šarūnas Jasikevičius, has holes in its defensive line, Panathinaikos seems to have too many players, and the early-season rotations do not allow it to play at its best.

Wade Baldwin IV, who came close to beating Panathinaikos last year to reach the Final Four but had to end the quarter-final series early due to an injury, should not lack internal motivation.
