Spain La Liga Prediction: Girona – Barcelona (15-09-2024)

The 2024-25 Spanish La Liga season started on 15 August. The clubs have already played four matches each, none of which Barcelona has lost, while their main rivals, Real Madrid, have already drawn twice.
This has allowed Barca to move ahead by 4 points, a tangible advantage after just four games. The teams are currently on a break and on 15 September. Girona hosts Barcelona, who are in great form in La Liga, on Saturday.

Girona was one of the biggest surprises in La Liga last year. They were even the top team for a while, but in the second half of the season, it became too difficult to hold their own against the biggest clubs. However, they finished in third place and earned the right to play in this year’s UEFA Champions League.
Obviously, after such a season, changes in the summer were inevitable. Several players were sold – Artem Dovbyk, Aleix Garcia, and Iker Almena. Savinho, Eric Garcia, and Yan Couto were out of contract.
The signings could have been more impressive, but the team’s budget must also be considered. Girona has a squad worth 208 million euros, which puts them seventh in La Liga.

Barcelona is facing the new season with much higher expectations – not only to regain the La Liga title but also to win the UEFA Champions League. The team is especially rich in talented youngsters, and in the summer, they acquired 26-year-old Dani Olmo, who had a great EURO 2024.
While the first three La Liga victories were not easy, all 2-1, the last three games against Valladolid saw a relaxed and highly efficient Barca, winning 7-0.
Girona looks a bit weakened this year, and the UEFA Champions League awaits. Although Barcelona will be playing away, they can be considered clear favourites. Girona won both times last season by 4:2 and should not lack motivation to fight back.
