Africa Cup of Nations Predictions: Egypt – Mozambique (14-01-2024)

Egypt is among the best in Africa and one of the favorites to win AFCON. Salah delivers offensively, but a strong defense otherwise characterizes the Egyptians. For those engaged in the thrilling world of sports predictions, particularly in Africa, football betting enthusiasts eagerly anticipate every move by the Egyptian team.

Several players know each other from Al-Ahly or Pyramids, where they have participated in numerous CAF, Champions League, and international matches. Egypt hired Rui Vitoria as coach in the summer of 2022, and since then, they have lost just one of 13 matches and drawn nine.

However, many of these are friendlies. In games of importance, Egypt rarely allows many goals against them. In just five of the last 17 matches, the opponents have got on the board, and they are usually other big teams.

Mozambique are at their first AFCON since 2010. The East African country benefits from several players with Portuguese roots and/or residency, and they have played a crucial role in their qualification.

However, Mozambique was blessed with a manageable group, with Senegal quickly taking first place and Mozambique finishing above Benin and Rwanda. Unsurprisingly, only seven of their eight goals were scored against those two.

Offensively, Mozambique needs more quality. Top scorer Dominques is 40 years old and on his last legs. The second leading scorer, Miquissone, is a reserve for Simba in Tanzania, and the third top scorer, Clesio, plays for Honka (six goals last season).

Their new shooting star, Catamo, could be the man of the future. He is now a reserve at Sporting Lisbon but is used to a high level. In addition, Witi is scoring well in the Portuguese 2nd division.

It is not unrealistic to expect Egypt to dictate the game. Under Rui Vitoria’s leadership, they play 4-2-3-1 with two defensive midfielders. Others have had a hard time breaking through, and a team like Mozambique doesn’t have the quality to threaten them.

Mozambique will be happy to take away one point from this game. There are good chances of Egypt keeping a clean sheet again.
